Air Fryer Steak
Steak is by far one of my favorite meals to feed my entire family. Not only is it delicious, but it is also packed with protein and vital micronutrients that many other foods lack. Below is one of the simplest ways to cook it that is completely ViCera-Approved.
Why Eat Steak?
For years, red meat was demonized in our culture. But in reality, steak is packed FULL of vital macro and micronutrients that our body needs to function each and every day. Not only is steak full of protein to give you energy and keep your hormones in balance, but it also contains nutrients like iron, zinc, and selenium to nourish every cell in your body. It’s time to forget about what 2000’s diet culture (and Big Food) taught us and eat more steak!
My Top Three Steak Cuts:
- Filet Mignon
- New York Strip
- Sirloin
My Top Tips for Buying Steak:
While you are free to buy any cut of steak that you enjoy, my top tip for buying steak is to look for "Grass-Fed, Organic" steak at the grocery store. However, if you have access to a local farm that sells grass-fed steak, that is even better! There is so much peace of mind knowing that you are feeding yourself and your family quality food that can be trusted. If you're going to spend the money on steak, you might as well feel confident in how it is sourced!
Air Fryer Steak Meal Ideas:
- Air Fryer Steak is seriously delicious on it’s own. If you are pressed for time or just looking for a simple, high-protein meal, air fryer steak is perfect (and ViCera-Approved for any Phase).
- I love Steak & Cauli Rice Bowls. Simply place your air fryer steak on top of a bed of cauliflower rice and top with avocado, cheddar cheese, and your favorite dressing.
- Steak is also the perfect way to satisfy your Mexican Food craving. My family loves homemade quesadillas with Siete Tortillas, high-quality cheese, and steak. Make some homemade guac for dipping and your cravings will be satisfied!
- Similar to homemade quesadillas, steak can be used to make a delicious fajita recipe. I like to use my BlackStone to make some fajita veggies. Then, I simply add steak, veggies, cheese, and guacamole to a Siete tortilla and enjoy!
- Remember, steak can be a breakfast food too! Simply cook a few eggs in your preferred style and eat your air fryer steak on the side. Eating a protein-packed breakfast is a sure-fire way to keep cravings at bay all day long.
Ingredients:
- 1 serving of steak of choice (I prefer filet mignon)
- 3/4 tbsp avocado oil
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- Squeeze of lemon
Recipe:
- Cut your steak into even, bite-sized pieces, ensuring that they are all of similar size.
- Place steak in a bowl with avocado oil, garlic salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon.
- Cover your bowl of steak with foil and let it sit for 20-30 minutes.
- Preheat your air fryer to approximately 390 degrees.
- Place your steak in the air fryer and check on it every 1-2 minutes. Make sure to shake the basket every time you open the air fryer. (Every air fryer cooks differently, so it is important to keep a close eye on your steak).
- Pull out your steak when it is cooked to your liking.
- Serve on its own or using one of the ideas in this blog post and enjoy!
A Few Thoughts:
- The macros for this meal depend on the cut of steak you choose. I highly recommend using an app like Carbon to input your air fryer steak meal and allow it to produce the macros for you!
- Every air fryer cooks a bit differently. Don't be afraid to try out a different temperature setting each time you make this until you find your sweet spot!
- If you don't have an air fryer, I HIGHLY recommend this one. It can be used as an extra large air fryer or two smaller ones. I use mine at least 3 times every single day!
